Subdivision "Mogilno" , which was the part of Main Defensive Position of Poznań Army, is
made up of 3 standard military bunkers built according to guidelines of "Sapper Manual" from
1939. They are examples of A resistance category bunkers which according to the Manual meant
that they can stand frequent shots of 75 mm calibre shells and single shot of 105 calibre. Two of
the bunkers arewell preserved which is because they were not used in combat and one of them
(No 1) has destroyed shooting slit probably from resistance trials carried out by Germans.
Those unused bunkers create a subdivision Mogilno, located between Bystrzyca and Olsza villages,
between the road from Mogilno to Strzelno and local river Panna.
Bunker No 1 - military bunker for unilateral fire eastwards reaching the nearby crossroads. It
is located south off the Mogilno Strzelno road, between Bystrzyca and Olsza villages, about 150 m
from the road towards Panna river, west off the ditch connecting road with the river. It has
destroyed shooting slit and we can admire the craftsmanship of reinforcement used while building
.The entrance is in the northern wall (from the road s side). Inside is full of rubbish, mainly
plants from the fields surrounding the bunker .
Bunker No 2 - military bunker for unilateral fire westwards. It is located east off the ditch
connecting the road with Panna river. It is in very good condition. Inside is clean and encouraging.
It is visible from the road.
Bunker No 3 - military bunker for unilateral fire eastwards. It is located about 100 m off the
road towards Panna river. It is preserved in a very good condition .
The rest of fortifications spreads to the south-east off described bunkers and it goes along Warta
Gopło canal between Skulsk and Ślesin. There are seven bunkers which we will write about soon.
Having finished our tour of Mogilno area fortifications we encourage you to stay in the area
and visit Mogilno. There is an 11th century Benedictine monastery with surrounding buildings.
Early Romanesque site of the monks was one of the most magnificent stone buildings of that time
in Poland. To extend your knowledge you should visit Mogilno Museum which hosts many
interesting exhibitions.
